Whole Foods’ First 365 Store Opening May 25 In California

Nearly a year after Whole Foods announced the five cities that would become home to its new line of lower-cost stores, the company has revealed just when the first of those stores will open: next month.

The first “365 by Whole Foods Market” store, which aims to bring in the all-important millennial demographic with lower prices and a “hip, cool, and tech-oriented” atmosphere, is officially on pace to open May 25, the company said on Thursday.

The Austin-based company previously announced that Silver Lake would likely be the first location as it had made the “strategic decision to renegotiate the lease in development for the Silver Lake location,” but had been mum on when the store would actually open.

Whole Foods says the first location will come equipped with a restaurant from the chef of New York’s vegan spot CHLOE, a coffee bar by Allegro Coffee Company, and a self-serve tea kiosk by teaBOT.

“With each store, we’re looking to curate a unique experience,” Jeff Turnas, president of 365 by Whole Foods Market, said in a statement. “We’ve really dedicated ourselves to partnering with like-minded companies that are doing new and interesting things in their respective field to bring a truly unique shopping experience that complements our thoughtfully curated selection of foods.”

Turnas didn’t specify if the new stores will feature in-house tattoo parlors, as was previously discussed.

Two additional 365 by Whole Foods Market stores will open this year in Bellevue, WA, and Portland, OR. The company expects to open 10 additional stores in 2017.
