Signed, sealed, and soon to be delivered.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight titleholder TJ Dillashaw (10-2) will defend his newly-won title against former 135-pound kingpin Renan Barao (32-2, 1 NC) in the main event of UFC 177, now official for Aug. 30, 2014, inside the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California.
UFC announced the pairing last Friday night.
Dillashaw shocked the MMA world in the main event of UFC 173 over Memorial Day Weekend when he dominated Barao for most of their five-round affair, before polishing off the Brazilian in the final frame (watch it).
The win was thoroughly impressive because Dillashaw -- by trade a wrestler -- was able to beat Barao on the feet, which just so happens to be the ex-champ's specialty. In addition, the huge upset snapped Barao's unprecedented 32-fight MMA win streak that spanned nearly a decade.
Dillashaw will have the home court advantage in Sacramento, which happens to be the location of his base camp, Team Alpha Male. It's also a golden opportunity to prove that he can defeat one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world more than once.
Meanwhile, the fight will not only give Barao the opportunity to reclaim his strap, but it will also give him the chance to get payback for what the aforementioned Aldo deemed as "disrespect" from Team Alpha Male after its victory over Memorial Day Weekend.
No other bouts have been confirmed for UFC 177 at this time; however, expect more announcements to be revealed in the coming days.
Stay tuned.
