Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight and Lightweight veteran Marcus Davis is the latest pick up by Bellator MMA, as the 30-fight mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran has signed on for a March 21 debut with the organization.
Davis (21-9) announced the signing via his official Twitter account; however, he made no mention of the terms of the contract or a potential opponent.
"Signed to fight for Bellator March 21 Lewiston Maine." The 39-year-old wrote on Friday (Feb. 1, 2013).
"The Irish Hand Grenade" is best known for his appearance on season two of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) reality show and subsequent 14-fight stint under the UFC banner.
During his six-plus year tenure with the UFC, Davis picked up notable wins over the likes of Shonie Carter, Pete Spratt, Paul Taylor and Chris Lytle. Unfortunately, he dropped four of his final five fights in the organization and was released in January 2011.
Since parting ways with the UFC, Davis has fought five times on the regional scene, racking up four wins with the lone defeat coming by split decision.
Davis has a reputation for putting on exciting fights, as he was the recipient of five fight night bonuses during his time with the UFC.
With his 40th birthday fast approaching, it is likely Davis will remain with Bellator MMA for the final chapter of his career.
MMAmania.com will pass along the name of Davis' opponent for his Bellator MMA debut when it becomes available.
