The UFC 156: "Aldo vs. Edgar" main card on pay-per-view (PPV) kicked off tonight (Sat., Feb. 2, 2013) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, with a flyweight top contender bout pitting former title challenger Joseph Benavidez against "Uncle Creepy" himself, Ian McCall.

Both fighters came in looking to erase the memory of their respective losses to Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson while also laying the groundwork to get back to a rematch with him.

To that end, congratulations to Benavidez, who accomplished just that.

Benavidez was landing some big shots throughout the first round, wooing the crowd and swaying the commentary team to his side early. A few punches landed flush and briefly wobbled McCall's legs but his smile betrayed how hurt he may or may not have been.

Either way, he was clearly down on the scorecards after the opening frame.

That wasn't the case after the second however, as "Uncle Creepy" settled in nicely and punctuated his victory of the round with some solid passing on the floor on a failed "Joe-B" takedown attempt, not to mention some effective ground-n-pound.

The third and final frame saw Benavidez go back to the hard-charging aggressive style he used to dominate most of the first. McCall fought back with a few takedown attempts but most failed and it seemed clear the judges would have an easy decision on their hands.

Sure enough, Benavidez was declared the victor by way of unanimous decision on scores of 29-28 across the board.
