Health risks?? Pffft, you can't pull the wool over Dana White's eyes, "Cyborg."
The vocal Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president says the simple truth is that former Strikeforce women's featherweight champion and all-around wrecking machine, Cristiane Santos, wants nothing to do with the promotion's bantamweight titleholder, Ronda Rousey.
Santos is widely believed to be the biggest threat to ending "Rowdy's" reign atop the women's mixed martial arts (MMA) throne, however, the Brazilian, via doctor's orders, is hesitant to make the drop down to 135 pounds due to potential health risks should she ever decide to have children.
Tito Ortiz, "Cyborg's" manager, previously stated she would attempt the rigorous weight cut if aided by master dietitian Mike Dolce. However, on a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Ortiz backtracked a couple steps and said trying to convince his client to make the weight cut has been far from easy and he is unsure if she will ever attempt it.
Speaking to FUEL TV, White revealed he just doesn't know what will happen with Santos, but he is positive of one thing, "Cyborg" wants nothing to do with Rousey.
His words:
"It's the only division we have. This is real interesting. You know, I've been in the fight business since I was 19-years old. I've been doing this for 15 years. And what I get out of this deal with Cyborg is that she wants nothing to do with Ronda Rousey, she does not want to fight Ronda Rousey. So, we don't have a 145-pound women's division, so I don't know how this is going to end up. It's been weird."
Many would think a quick solution for the weight-cutting dilemma would be to contest the fight at 145 pounds, a division Rousey has competed at before, however, with the bantamweight division being the only weight class currently in the UFC for women and with the promotion holding off on signing other women fights until after UFC 157's title fight between Rousey and Liz Carmouche, developing a featherweight division is highly unlikely.
Not to mention Ronda is sticking to her guns, saying if Santos wants to fight her she needs quit "doping" and make the weight to meet her at 135 pounds, no exceptions.
As for Cyborg? Her message was simple: Step up, bitch.
