Roy Nelson really wants to fight Cheick Kongo.
In fact, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 winner was already paired off against the hard-hitting Parisian at UFC 116 back in 2010. Then this happened. Undeterred, "Big Country" called him out last summer in Canada.
UFC President Dana White heard those cries and tried to pair them off as opposing coaches for TUF 16, but Kongo politely said, "Thanks, but no thanks."
I guess the third time is the charm?
Nelson (18-7) rebounded from a dreadful 1-3 run to secure back-to-back knockout victories over Dave Herman at UFC 146 and Matt Mitrione at TUF 16 Finale. He's expected to meet his rival on the pay-per-view (PPV) main card of UFC 159: "Jones vs. Sonnen," booked for the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, on April 27, 2013.
That's "The Rock," for all you out-of-towners.
Kongo (18-7) was knocked senseless by Mark Hunt in their heavyweight affair at UFC 146 over the Memorial Day Weekend, but managed to get back on his horse with a unanimous -- yet uninspired -- decision win over Shawn Jordan at UFC 149 in Calgary.
Which one of these power punchers stays afloat in the crowded 265-pound division?
UFC 159 will feature a light heavyweight title fight pitting champion Jon Jones against challenger and fellow TUF coach Chael Sonnen. Bitter 205-pound rivals Phil Davis and Vinny Magalhaes have also been scheduled to hook 'em up in "Dirty Jersey."
