Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White stated that should Anderson Silva defeat Nick Diaz this weekend (Sat., Jan. 31, 2015) at UFC 183 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Brazilian bomber would be next in line for a shot at the title.
"The Spider," though, says he's still a few wins away before getting back to the big dance.
That's "crazy" talk, according to White, who recently spoke to FOX Sports 1 (via MMA Fighting) and stated that the former middleweight champ doesn't need to go on a win streak to attempt to reclaim what was once his. But, if he chooses to take other fights, then he's going to find himself in a predicament as his opponents will more than likely be Brazilian.
Check it out:
"I think that on Saturday night, we'll see where he's at. He's an absolute professional, he's done everything he needs to do to prepare for this fight. He's back in shape, I think it's just a mental thing, he has to get out there and see how he feels. I don't think he needs 3-4 fights to get back to the title. But, if he feels that way, he's the No. 1 ranked guy in the world, he can fight Jacare Souza, he can fight Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort, Luke Rockhold, Yoel Romero ... He starts getting very limited when he doesn't want to fight Brazilians or other guys. Three of the top guys in the world are Brazilian. Anderson always has some crazy things to say before the fight."
Silva has repeatedly gone on record saying that he would rather not face one of his fellow countrymen inside the eight-walled cage ... especially his teammates and friends.
But, after he recently expressed his displeasure toward good friends Ronaldo Souza and Lyoto Machida for saying they had no qualms fighting him, perhaps Silva may have a change of heart and decide to teach them a lesson take them on.
Of course, if the aforementioned Diaz stuns the world and hands Silva his third straight loss in "Sin City," all this title talk will be all for naught.
