The Stockton slugger will duke it out in court before he steps back inside the Octagon.
Before Nick Diaz steps back into the Octagon on Jan 31, 2015, to take on former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, at UFC 183 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Stockton slugger will have another fight on his hands.
According to MMA Fight Corner, Diaz is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 25, 2014, by the San Joaquin County Court after the former No. 1 welterweight contender was arrested last week (Sat. Sept. 6, 2014) on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI).
Diaz was was also booked for obstructing a police officer, destroying evidence and driving with a suspended license. Once in custody, Diaz attempted to vomit up the evidence before taking a breathalyzer test. He was released from the Lodi City Jail later that day.
Soon thereafter, another report surfaced detailing that Nick had previously been arrested just last year ... also for DUI. The 170-pound standout, reportedly, failed to attend the first couple of scheduled courts dates for that arrest.
UFC officials released this statement, suggesting that it would let the legal system do its thing while the promotion gathered all the information before proceeding further.
And while his fight against "The Spider" is still four months away, UFC officials are likely keeping their fingers crossed that Diaz attends his scheduled arraignment to avoid any possible or additional punishment from the law that could forbid him from competing.
As always, MMAmania will keep you up to date as details emerge regarding this developing story.
