The champ is back! Or well, he's almost back. Okay, he's not really back but he has narrowed down when he'd like to return.
Fans last saw Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones at UFC 165 when he defeated Alexander Gustafsson in the main event to retain his title. The bout went to the judges, who awarded the fight to Jones unanimously. It was by far the most trying fight in Jones' UFC career.
He was expected to face Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC 169 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on February 1, 2014, but Jones said he would not be ready in time for that event.
Teixeira earned his shot at the gold when he knocked out Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night 28 in September.
Tonight (Nov. 1, 2013), Jones' manager, Malki Kawa, spoke with Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting to discuss when fans could expect to see the champ back in the Octagon. While there isn't a specific date set, he's hoping to make his return at UFC 170 in Las Vegas, Nevada on Feb. 22 or in early March.
