Georges St. Pierre 'not afraid' of Ben Askren, has 'no problem' fighting him

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre is a popular guy.

Not only does he have a date with division number one contender Johny Hendricks at the upcoming UFC 167 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Nov. 16, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada (details), he also has nine other guys in his weight class (see them) hoping to knock his block off.

And that doesn't count the folks outside UFC who want a piece of the "Rush" pie.

Chief among them is former Bellator 170-pound kingpin Ben Askren, the undefeated collegiate wrestling phenom who breezed through the ranks of his former employer before calling for a St. Pierre showdown. It's just a matter of getting the legal mumbo-jumbo worked out.

As for St. Pierre?

"Of course (I'd like to fight him), the Canadian told MMA Junkie. "He's a good fighter, undefeated, and yes, if he comes, I'll fight him. No problem. Bring him in; I'll fight everyone. I am the champion, and I have no choice, so it's no problem. I'm not afraid."

We'll see if "Bigg Rigg" has anything to say about that.

Askren (12-0) watched his Bellator contract expire following a technical knockout win over Andrey Koreshkov last July and briefly considered retirement after finding himself in contractual limbo. The two-time NCAA champion, however, was quick to reassure mixed martial arts (MMA) fans that he was not calling it quits until be "beats up" St. Pierre.

In the meantime, he's had to settle for Quentin Wright (video).

St. Pierre vs. Askren is not possible unless the former goes to Bellator (not likely) or the latter comes to UFC (possible). Until then, all we can do is speculate as to which top welterweight would emerge victorious if and when they ever did hook 'em up.

What say you?
