One of the top fighters on the regional scene is Holly Holm, the former 18x boxing champion. Holm decided to switch up sports and since joining Jackson's MMA in Albuquerque, she's been on an absolute tear. In her five professional fights, she's finished every opponent by TKO.
Needless to say, since joining the Legacy Fighting Championship roster, Holm's name has been tossed around when discussing top female fighters. Because of her celebrity from the boxing world, Holm is one of the most promising athletes outside of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) to break through.
Following the UFC 166 post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White spoke with attending media about a variety of topics. Naturally, Holm's name came up.
"You're like the billionth person that's asked me about Holly Holm. I was on the street the other day and some guy was like, 'HEY! Sign Holly Holm.' And I'm like, 'yeah, I know. Everybody's telling me.' I haven't seen her fight but I keep hearing about her. She's like the female Conor McGregor. I thought Conor McGregor was a heavyweight when I was hearing about him. For some reason, that's what I did. Holly Holm, I don't know what she looks like, I've never seen her fight, but I know who she is."
The McGregor works on many levels. Before signing with the UFC, McGregor's reputation in the sport was almost at mythic proportions, yet his fights weren't really viewed besides the random youtube video much in the same way Holm's career has been limited to AXS Television.
And like McGregor, Holm is recognized by anyone who has seen her fight, as one of the top finishers in the sport.
White not knowing who she is may sound awful, but at least she's on his radar. If the "Preacher's Daughter" can continue to win fights on AXS TV, it will be a matter of "when", not "if" when discussing her promotional debut.
