MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani broke the news just moments ago:
Bellator's inaugural pay-per-view has been hit by the injury bug.
Tito Ortiz suffered a neck injury in training which will keep him out of next weekend's fight against Quinton Jackson, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.
Bellator is currently seeking a replacement for Ortiz, and it is unclear at this time whether Jackson will remain on the Nov. 2 card. There is a chance next weekend's pay-per-view card turns into a Spike show with Jackson being moved to another event.
It's been a mixed bag for Bellator's inaugural Pay Per View (PPV) card so far. Critics and fans have been dogging it for the main event few had been asking for and weren't really looking forward to. However, VIACOM and SPIKE TV have both been pushing it heavily for a solid month and change on their networks, so they could probably expect at least a reasonable turnout.
Now? Well, honestly, this just means that the least credible main event in many moons is off the card and Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez get the full spotlight.
Well, hopefully they do. They could bring in a late-replacement (Vladimir Matyushenko?) or cancel it (I wonder how that plays out with Alvarez's contract situation), but at this point, the best we can hope for is that they put what little promotional muscle they have left into hyping up two legitimate top lightweights in this sport like they deserve, and not two over-the-hill veterans.
Dana White's reaction was classic Dana
Oh boy KARMA is a BITCH :)
