"I think Grant really believes he has good stand-up. He's good on the ground, but he likes to stand and strike. He believes in that aspect of his game and that's okay. Training at AKA has added a few more tools to my game, but I truly believe I'm one of the hardest hitters -- if not the hardest -- in the lightweight division. I like to go everywhere in a fight, but if he wants to scrap it out on the feet, I don't have a problem with that. I'm hungry, man. It's been a long layoff. These past two years have been off and on, but I have been traveling and in the gym learning new things. I'm coming back hungry to get back to the top of this division and go after that title. Grant is a tough opponent and I'm training hard for him. I'm hungry and people are going to see that next month in Las Vegas."
Memo to T.J. Grant: Hands up, chin down. The streaking Canadian grappler is facing off against Gray Maynard at the upcoming UFC 160: "Velasquez vs. Bigfoot 2" pay-per-view (PPV) event, slotted for the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 25, 2013. The winner will graduate to a championship bout against Ben Henderson in the latter part of 2013 (says Uncle Dana), making Maynard "hungry" for his 155-pound return after nearly 10 months on the sidelines due to a bum knee. While "The Bully" (via Bleacher Report) contends he's one of the hardest hitters in his division, he's only finished two of his 11 wins by way of knockout or technical knockout, a statistic I'm sure is not lost on Grant, who has only stopped three out of 20. The only difference, is the Fit Plus jiu-jitsu wizard has 13 victories by way of tapout, whereas Maynard has zero. Does that mean we get three rounds of ugly stand up? Or a slick submission finish? Time will tell.
