"I talked to Dana White about this ... the last time I [saw] him...Don't be surprised if I try to get in that thing and win a title. I'll be the first fighter to win a boxing championship and a UFC mixed martial arts world championship."

-- Two-time welterweight boxing champion Andre Berto revealed in a recent interview (via Yahoo! Sports) that he had an interest in competing in mixed martial arts (MMA) competition under the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) banner and has even gone as far as speaking to the organization's president Dana White about making the transition from boxing to MMA. Berto did not share any details regarding how the conversation with White played out; however, he seems quite interested in making a move that historically hasn't gone entirely well for professional boxers. Many will be reminded of James Toney's one and only UFC fight where UFC Hall-of-Fame inductee Randy Couture quickly humiliated him, but Berto's situation may be different. Not only is Berto on the right side of 30 at 29 years of age, his father, brother and sister have all competed in the sport -- something that could only be beneficial if Berto wants to indeed make a run in MMA.

What do you think about Berto making the transition to MMA? Would he do better than others? Could he hang with UFC caliber fighters, or even one day become a world champion as he claims?
