Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight Nick Catone did not make the impression he would have liked in his home state, as "The Jersey Devil" missed the 171-pound welterweight limit by two pounds for his fight tomorrow night (April 27, 2013) at UFC 159: "Jones vs. Sonnen."
Catone (9-4), who is currently on a two-fight losing streak and is scheduled to face James Head on the Facebook preliminary portion of the fight card, came it at 173 pounds on his first pass at the scale. Despite being given two hours, Catone did not make a second attempt.
As a result of Catone's failure to make weight, John Morgan of MMA Junkie reports the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board (NJSACB) has fined the 31-year-old 20 percent of his fight purse, an amount that will be determined following the event.
The portion fined from Catone's purse will be paid to Head and the match up is now considered a catchweight contest.
