All the trash talk and hype finally came to a close tonight (Sat., April 27, 2013) at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, as Jon Jones put his light heavyweight championship on the line against the man who talked his way into the bout, Chael Sonnen, in the main event of UFC 159: "Jones vs. Sonnen" on pay-per-view.
And it didn't even last a round.
That's because "Bones" used his superior size and strength advantage to throw "The American Gangster" around before pounding him out with a series of elbows and punches that had Sonnen busted open and bleeding all over the mat.
It was too easy.
It came at a cost, though. In the post-fight interview, color commentator Joe Rogan noticed Jones had broken his toe and the camera panned down to show a nasty break that occurred at some point during the beating he had delivered to Sonnen.
Gross.
Still, Jones is the light heavyweight champion and his bones will heal soon enough.
