Before Uriah Hall and Kelvin Gastelum share the Octagon at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale just hours from now at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, the middleweight competitors were forced to endure one final formality:
For mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters, the weigh-ins are the last time they will see stand face-to-face (see the staredown pic here) with their opponent before colliding inside the cage. Some fighters are casual when stepping on the scale, others use the moment as one final opportunity to try and intimidate their opponent.
Just moments after successfully making weight, Hall and Gastelum appeared on the FUEL TV weigh-in show to share some finals thoughts on their bout with correspondent Heidi Androl less than 24-hours away from The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale.
First, the favorite Hall spoke about trying to live hype surrounding him leading into the fight and how he expects the bout to play out.
On if he lets the hype get to him:
"I try not too. I just came in this competition to get better and for me to try and live up to that is just setting myself up to fail so I'd rather not put that pressure on myself."On what fans can expect:
"A great show. I know Kelvin as a fighter, I know him as individual. I've trained with him, I love the guy and I know we're just going to go out there and let it go."
Gastelum, who can become the youngest TUF winner in history, also spoke with Androl on the FUEL TV weigh-in broadcast, sharing his thoughts on being the underdog throughout the season and being one of the few fighters who wanted to train with Hall.
On being an underdog from the beginning of TUF 17:
"I think that (being an underdog) definitely was the case. They see me as kind of a small kind, a pudgy kid and that's fine with me. I was flying under the radar the whole tournament and it worked out in my favor. On his training sessions with Hall:
"Some of the people were complaining about how hard he was going and how hard he was going during the sparring sessions and that's kind of the way we train back at home we go out and we go hard and I didn't have a problem with it. Mentally I feel prepared. Mentally, physically -- I feel prepared."
Just a few more hours until showtime, Maniacs!
