UFC on FUEL TV 7 results: Matt Riddle defeats Che Mills in dull affair

The UFC on FUEL TV 7: "Barao vs. McDonald" main card kicked off today (Sat., Feb. 16, 2013) from Wembley Stadium in London, England, with a welterweight scrap pitting home hero Che Mills against hated heel Matt Riddle.

Mills is still picking up the pieces after his loss to Rory MacDonald back in April of last year, though he has recorded a first round technical knockout victory in the meantime, even if it was thanks to a knee injury suffered by Duane Ludwig. Riddle, a brawling buddy if there ever was one, actually came in riding high on three straight victories, though one was overturned due to a failed drug test.

Stay away from pot, y'all.

You should also try to stay away from Riddle's suffocating takedowns and control, something Mills was unable to do throughout the entirety of the opening round. There was little to no legitimate action, sure, but if the uneven judging in MMA has taught us anything, it's that controlling your opponent is a points earning strategy.

So much for that brawling insanity, huh?

The second round played out in a similar fashion. Riddle's positioning was superior, his passing was scoring him even more points, and his submission attempts sealed the deal. You may have been able to hear crickets in the arena but winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

And Riddle was dominating.

For the first minute of the final frame, Mills finally got the chance to wing a few punches at his opponent's dome. He did just that too, swinging hard and connecting a few times to a thunderous applause from the British faithful. He never landed clean, though, and Riddle stayed fresh enough to shoot in for another takedown and clinch.

That was all she wrote.

Anyone enjoy the new Matt Riddle?
