Best of the Best: MMAmania.com's UFC/MMA week in review (2/10/13)

02brittney

Welcome, Maniacs, to the thirty-second edition of "This Week in MMAmania.com." MMAmania is a gigantic and glorious place and we pump out a ridiculous amount of content. If you don't refresh this site every 60 minutes, you might just miss something amazing.

Have no fears, that's what this weekly article is all about! We'll recap the best of all things MMAmania, whether it be a great comment, a Fan Post, an article, video or something else.

- Comment of the Week: 10thDegreeWhiteBelt had one of the funniest sequences in a Mania comment thread I've ever seen, and he didn't even mean to do it. Bless your inability to spell check a comment and the fact that SBNation still doesn't have a comment editor. We never would have had this golden exchange otherwise.

This will go down as the biggest hor move in Dana history f he doesn't allow a UFC hall of Faner to corner his own so

- Article of the week: Our very own Andrew Richardson had a terrific breakdown of UFC Interim Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao, who's fighting tomorrow in the main event of UFC on FUEL TV 7. Check out everything from tendencies in striking, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and more right here.

- MMAmania's Verbal Submission podcast: Not to toot my own horn, but in case you missed it, I hosted the fourth edition of our weekly podcast with Mike Bohn on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, our guest Cat Zingano was unable to make the show, but we still had plenty of interesting MMA discussion. If you didn't tune in live, you can still catch the podcast right here:

- Fanpost of the Week: Phasebook put some serious effort into the debut of the Maniac's official rankings and it deserves to be read. Seriously, go check it out. He did a fantastic job.

- Honorable mention fanpost of the week: Wolfman13 did some really solid work breaking down what could happen if the UFC really wants to flesh out its women's bantamweight division by not only taking a look at the top ranked unsigned women's bantamweights, but also the best ladies at 125 and 145 that could take the leap as well as the best prospects on the rise. Go check it out.

- Honorable mention comment of the week: IgaveDenverColorado had a pretty solid zinger directed towards former Strikeforce women's 145 pound champion Cyborg Santos.

Cyborg's only challenge at 145 are the athletic commissions.

- IgaveDenverColorodo

- Interview of the Week: We had some great interviews this week, but how can you top the remainder of our chat with Matt Riddle? After his wild comments on his TUF 7 knockout and TRT, he still had plenty left in the tank. Go check it out.

But that's not all, we also have interviews with newly crowned Bellator champion Alexander Shlemenko, MFC middleweight champion Elvis Mutapcic and James Goyder had fantastic interviews with UFC middleweight Tom Lawlor, One FC's Shinya Aoki and beleaguered top prospect Rasul Mirzaev.

- Video of the Week: Okay, this has nothing to do with MMA, but sexy Australian hurdler Michelle Jenneke posed for Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Edition and some lucky bastard made a video of it. Bon appetite.

We don't just have great content on MMAmania, our writers also are very active on Twitter, most notably our beloved Geno Mrosko. Unfortunately, Geno seems to have deleted his Twitter account a few week's back, so other Mania writers had to step up their game. Let's see how they did.

Here's our honorary #GenoTime Tweet of the Week: Andrew Richardson and Jesse Holland were our big winners this week:

Let's just say George isn't a fan of the rapper 50 Centt.

50 Cent should stop making music. His voice is so unenthusiastic that it makes everything he says unenjoyable.

- George Halvatzis Jr.

Mr. Holland had to deal with a troll on twitter, but come on, how can I not post when he actually responds to someone named "FUCKYOUPOOPDICK"?

"@FUCKYOUPOOPDICK: @Jesse_Holland somebody is going to die today" Hopefully it's you.

- Jesse Holland

If you want to catch any good tweets from your Mania writers, here are our accounts: Thomas Myers, Jesse Holland, Adam Guillen Jr., Mike Bohn, Andrew Richardson, George Halvatsis Jr. and Brian Hemminger.

- Obligatory TNA of the Week: I hate to see you go, but I love to watch you leave.

- Dumbest Comment of the Week: Sorry unambig, usually you are one of the best on Mania with your fanposts, but this was pretty lame. Eduardo Dantas trains out of Nova Uniao, has extremely solid skills and is far from a can. Also Bellator boasts a pretty solid bantamweight division that includes the likes of Ronnie Mann, Luis Nogueira, Joe Warren, Ed West, Marcos Galvao, Hiroshi Nakamura, Travis Marx, Rodrigo Lima and more:

Wow, the can got lucky

The 135 division in Bellator is shallower than an Alabaman gene pool

Lastly, let's finish off the week with some Maniac debate. As the week comes to a close, let's get some input:

How do you think the loss of wrestling in the Olympics will affect MMA? Will more wrestlers come over or will less athletes be trying to become elite wrestlers in the first place?

That's it for this week. If you've got an extra suggestions for content, or nominations for articles, comments or discussion topics, please feel free to e-mail me at (and I made this e-mail especially for this): HemmingerMMA@gmail.com.
