"I don't know what's in his mind. Maybe all those ranking numbers he was talking about makes him feel good, but they're the reason why I called him out, and not anybody else. In my opinion, skillwise, Phil Davis should not even be a top 10 fighter. There are many guys in the UFC that are way more well-rounded than him, but the only thing he has going for him, that's really high level, is his wrestling, which I respect. He impressed a lot of people with his 6-1 record in the UFC, but he did not impress me because I don't look at numbers, I look at skills. I don't think he has the skills to be a top 10 fighter, I don't think he has the skills to beat me, I don't even think he has the skills to wrestle around with me, so I don't know what makes him thinks he deserves a spot in the top five."
Wrestling vs. jiu-jitsu? Phil Davis recently claimed Vinny Magalhaes isn’t on his level and doesn’t deserve a fight against him. Now, Magalhaes, (via Bloody Elbow) has responded to ‘Mr. Wonderful,' saying Davis can look at numbers all he wants but at the end of the day, his 6-1 record under the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) banner doesn't impress him one bit. According to Vinny, there are plenty of other fighters who are more well-rounded than Davis and he shouldn't even be ranked in the top 10. Labeling his striking and ground game ‘horrible,' Magalhaes also says the only thing Davis has going for him is his wrestling, which he does respect. However, even with his outstanding NCAA Division 1 championship credentials he obtained at wrestling powerhouse Penn State University (PSU), Davis won't be able to out grapple the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt when the two light heavyweights collide at UFC 159 on April 27, 2013. Anyone disagree?
