TRT: Vitor Belfort approved for Testosterone Replacement Therapy at UFC on FX 7

Earlier today (Feb. 6, 2013), the mystery man who failed his UFC on FX 7 post-fight drug test was revealed as none other than lightweight contender Thiago Tavares.

For his transgression, Silva -- who pissed hot for anabolic steroid drostanalone following his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov (re-watch the slaughter here) -- will be suspended for nine months by the newly-formed Brazilian mixed martial Arts (MMA) athletic commission.

Before the revelation, rumors ran wild that it was none other than middleweight smashing machine Vitor Belfort who was caught dirty after knocking out Michael Bisping in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Even "The Count" prematurely jumped on the bandwagon; however, as it turned out, the rumors were just that.

However, in a statement released by the UFC earlier today, it was revealed that "The Phenom" was medically approved for the always controversial Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) for his fight against Bisping because of his battle with hypogonadism.

From the UFC's official statement:

"To dispel rumors that have been circulated, Zuffa wishes to clarify that Vitor Belfort's drug test results were negative and did not indicate the presence of any performance enhancing drugs. Belfort has been on a medically approved testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) regimen under the supervision of a medical doctor from the State of Nevada, after being diagnosed with hypogonadism, or low testosterone. The purpose of a medically administered TRT regimen is to allow patients with hypogonadism to maintain testosterone levels within a range that is normal for an adult male."

It seems Bisping was on to something all along.

When asked if he was on TRT earlier this year, Belfort didn't have much to say, preferring to keep his opinions on the matter private because it "wouldn't accomplish anything" by talking about the controversial topic.

Now we know the reason.

Belfort now joins a lengthy list of fighters on the UFC roster with TRT exemptions, including Chael Sonnen, Frank Mir and Dan Henderson, among possibly others.

"The Count" says hi "cheaters," while Jon Jones likely thinks it's a "terrible" situation.
